Meteorfall: July Developer update

Hi everyone! I wanted to try doing a dev log to talk a bit more about the progress on the two Meteorfall games (Journeys and Krumit’s Tale). It remains to me seen if I have time to actually to monthly updates, but let’s give it a try.

Steam Page Launch

In June, we finally launched our Steam page for Krumit’s Tale. I know from reading the experiences of other indies that getting your Steam page up early and starting to collect Wishlists is important for the launch and long-term success on Steam.

Trailer Released

We also released the cinematic trailer for Krumit’s Tale! We got to work with Adrian Vaughan, a very talented voice actor from Australia to bring Krumit’s voice to life. Once we polish up a few more areas and get all of the placeholder graphics removed, I’ll be putting up a longer, more in-depth gameplay trailer as well.

Progress on Varfa the Ranger (Meteorfall: Journeys)

While working on Krumit’s Tale, I’m also simultaneously trying to keep plates spinning on the Meteorfall: Journeys front with Varfa. I’ve mapped out most of the 35 new cards I want to add for Varfa, though it’s always hard to tell how much more work there is until you really get into play testing. Once I get Krumit’s Tale to a place where it’s polished and ready for testing, I’ll move back to Journeys for a bit in order to get this update out.

Skins Update (Meteorfall: Journeys)

Besides Varfa, I’m also looking to bring some more skins to Journeys. Evgeny Viitman, the artist for Meteorfall, did a ton of great concepts for characters over the last several months, and I think they’d be perfect additions for the game to give players something else to unlock. One of the new skins is a hero named Redbeard, who may be related to Greybeard.

In the update, I’d also like to retire a few of the less popular daily challenges, and add some new modifiers as well to help keep things fresh. This update is smaller in scope than adding a new hero like Varfa, so I hope to get it out before the Varfa update.

Krumit’s Tale Beta?

I hope to launch the Krumit’s Tale beta in the next month or so. In the past few months, I was so focused on content (cards, enemies, etc… ) that I let a lot of bugs and rough edges creep in. I’ve slowed down on content since I’ve hit the amount of cards and enemies that I wanted to achieve, and now I’m focusing on cleaning up the rough edges. Mostly, this just means playing through the game a ton of times, taking notes on the bugs / rough edges — fixing them — and then repeating. Once I’m happy with where the game is at, I’ll be looking for some number of testers to help test the game on variety of systems. The initial focus will be on Steam, since that will be the first launch platform with Early Access, but I may run some iOS / Android tests in parallel.

That’s it!

Hope you enjoyed this update! It’s definitely been a challenge to simultaneously get over the ‘hard part’ of Krumit’s Tale (the last 10% before you launch) while also finding time to work on Journeys, but it’s really been a labor of love. All of the encouraging feedback and kind words from fans has given me the energy to power through and keep going.

Please check out Krumit’s Tale on Steam and wishlist if you like what you see — it’s a huge help!
